System Requirements

Global Telephone Systems Accounts – when using the account in conjunction with the Local Access Numbers , require nothing more then the ability to call the Local Access Numbers Gateway.

However, if the Global Telephone Systems Account is to be used with a Computer-Laptop and Software or SIP Hardware Devices – there are some minimum system requirements which are as follows:

1) Connection Speed – High speed, stable Internet connection such as DSL, Cable, and Satellite. The minimum requirement is 64 Kbps in each direction or a total of 128kbps.

The below speed test application which we have provided for your convenience, will assist you in determining the approximate speeds of your Internet Connection both down and up to see if it meets the Minimum requirements:

2) With your Computer or Laptop you can use a SoftPhone if your PC has speakers and microphone or a headset of course powerful enough to run the SoftPhone Software and a High Speed Internet Connection as described above ~OR~ a unlocked SIP Device or Hardware.

3) (optional) Personal computer for account management.

4) SIP Device, IP phone, or SoftPhone must use one of the supported CODEC’s below and/or CODEC G.729 as the low bandwidth CODEC for slower Internet Connections. CODEC’s Supported by Hardware and SoftPhones will almost always be listed in their specifications listing.

Global Telephone Systems also supports the following CODEC’s – G.711, G.726, ILBC, GSM, and of course G.729 as previously discussed.

We do not support CODEC G723 which is obsolete.
